The biggest exploration of my idea was the subject. In every piece there is a different subject whether it be a billboard (Image 2) or a menu (Image 7). However style wise I explored as well. I started off with a huge focus on this bright reflective futuristic theme, which of course made sense for my idea but kept me in this cliché realm. As I dove deeper into the world of Metropolis and tried to really picture what it would be like to live there I was better able to pull in different eras into my futuristic focus. For example in Beware the Bow Tie (Image 5) I research different vintage propaganda posters as inspiration for layout and style but by employing simple shapes with basic shading I still create a poster that has this renewed feeling. Another example of borrowing from other eras would be the Open House Flyer (Image 9) that uses an art deco font to double as a modern yet vintage typeface. Along with this I also found how to communicate my ideas without relying on reflective surfaces and gradients all the time. Instead by using organic shapes such as those found in the illustrations in Image 6 and 9.
